This weekend there were snowmobile races at the Lake of the Torches. The races were against the clock with about 8-10 sleds on the large course at a time. The start/finish line was in front of the casino, and the course ran the length of Pokegama to the islands on our end of the lake.

| Most of the racers appeared to belong to sponsored teams. Next week is the professional snowmobile championship in Eagle River. A top racer can earn about $20-30,000 a season. This was a tune up event. |

ReplyDeleteWe saw one guy dump his sled over on a turn, these sleds can go up to 100mph, he got back up and kept racing. Saw a few parts fly off on the jump too.
