Minocqua has a new craft distiller, Northern Waters. They have a tasting room in downtown Minocqua so Frank and I paid a visit. Their first whiskey is casked and aging, but in the meantime they can sell their clear corn whiskey, i.e. Lakeside Moonshine. We tasted some of the shine, along with a number of flavored whiskeys that they can offer for tasting, but can't yet sell, as they are awaiting approval to do so. As you might guess it's a highly regulated business to be in. Local, state, and federal regulations and approvals to sell all come into play. Future plans are for vodka and gin...I could end up a regular customer.
Frank bought a bottle of the moonshine to add to the Up North collection. He gave the Moonshine Manhattan two thumbs up. The girls all treated the moonshine as some evil elixir and kept waiting for us to disappear into Hell...or at least into immediate drunken stupor.
